Our current full moon is at its peak in the wee hours of Saturday morning, 27 February 2021 and it forms an exact quincunx with Saturn.
Have a beautiful full moon.
This is a great time to look at your habits and routines, coping mechanisms, and ongoing commitments and see how well they still serve you. How well do they fit into your life now? Are they aligned with how you want to live and who you want to be now?
We often start doing things for good reasons, but over time we continue them on auto pilot or out of habit or some self-imposed sense of obligation. This is a great time to take inventory and let go of that which doesn’t support you.
These kinds of habits can be subtle drains on our energy by keeping us hooked into things that are not nurturing or satisfying. It’s like looking at your credit card bill and noticing that you have a recurring payment for something you don’t even use anymore. Once you see that, it’s a no brainer to cancel that subscription and stop paying for it.
So it is with how we invest our time and emotional energy. Changing or letting go doesn’t mean you were wrong before. It just means you’re tuning into the natural rhythms of your life.
Our Aquarius new moon arrives on Thursday, 11 February 2021 and it’s like the bow on a cosmic gift as it joins the Sun, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn already in Aquarius.
That’s a lot and it’s incredible. Aquarius holds the space for the totality of who we are both in and out of body. Aquarius is about connection … to each other, to nature, our planet, our souls, our universe.
As I watch it snow and consider what I want to share, my mind drifted to a couple of lines from the poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. I discovered and memorized it about 50 years ago.
“Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.”
Know that you belong. You are connected. You are important and you matter, even when some unhealed part of you tells you otherwise
Love ALL of yourself.
You are a divine spark.
There has never been, nor will there ever be, another YOU.
Just after midnight on January 13th we have our first new moon of this new year. It’s in Capricorn and it comes with a Pluto conjunction.
This is a big one.
We are being asked to own our choices and our true intentions behind them, to remember that we always have a choice, to own our responsibility for our choices, for our own healing and our responsibilities to each other. And if that wasn’t enough, to know deep down that we can transform our lives no matter the circumstances, even random ones.
It’s a lot.
I’m guessing you’ve experienced serendipity, those beautiful moments when things just seem to workout in this oddly unexpected way. You may believe when that happens that everything happens for a reason.
I don’t. I’m going to tell you the three big things that I believe drive our experiences.
First, the more we live in alignment with our intuition, our highest good … when we surrender and let our soul guide us through life, the more of these serendipitous moments we have. We get into a flow and life feels easier. We don’t always see how things will work out at the time, but we follow that inner guidance and eventually see how it all comes together.
Second, there’s a randomness to this life. Sometimes circumstances fall in our favor and sometimes they don’t. Part of this randomness is our human experience and we are here to learn that we can transcend what happens here. We are bigger than any human experience and we can create meaningful transformation no matter what happens.
I don’t like the saying that everything happens for a reason, because it implies we’re not really responsible for anything. So what if there’s poverty or social injustice, everything happens for a reason, so those people must need to learn something. I also don’t believe that the universe is cruel. I would never tell parents that their child was raped and murdered so they could learn something. What lessons is worth the cost of that tuition?
So what about karma? Maybe you think that’s the reason behind the serendipity and tragic experiences of life.
So third, the beliefs and experiences you bring into this life do drive what you believe and your thoughts do create your reality. The energy of your thoughts causes you to see things the way you believe them to be and attracts to you what matches your beliefs. I get that. I mean I do karmic astrology.
The thing is, karma is not about punishment and rewards, it’s about cause and effect. You do something and that causes a reaction. You believe it’s okay to hurt others and then find yourself on the victim side of an experience where someone hurts you. After all, you believe it’s okay to hurt others. There is a connection between what we believe and what shows up in our life.
So here’s what I want you to really consider …
Your deepest responsibility and the most powerful choice you can make is to both wholly own that you are responsible for your life and the choices you make AND at the same time, turn control of your life over to your soul, your higher self.
When you do this, you maximize the likelihood you will experience the serendipity of life working out. You are more able to transform the heartbreak in life and you are more able you to transcend your karma. The merry go round of cause and effect is always spinning, but you have the ability to jump off.
When you own the source of your pain and heal your wounds, your belief changes and the karma is done.
So yes, life works better when we follow our intuition and ride the current of the divine. Things fall into place more easily and life is more abundant. Listening to that inner guidance improves your life. It can become a waste of energy though
to micro analyze everything or beat yourself up if something happens in life that isn’t good. Learn what you can, accept what is and move on to creating the transformation you need, because while there is a random element to life here how we handle it and get back on track is up to us.
Being open to transformation is our responsibility.
The secret to my eternal optimism isn’t that I believe every outcome is always going to be good. I’m not an “it’s all good” kind of person. My secret is that I know with certainty that everything can be transcended. Everything.
So during this new moon in Capricorn, be open to owning your choices and when making them, consider surrendering to what you know deep down is the best choice. Even if you don’t fully understand it. It’s actually very practical to follow the path your soul nudges you towards. It’s more efficient. It works better. And that is part of the beauty of Capricorn, allowing our divine self to be expressed through our human existence.
Today is December 29th the sun is in Capricorn and our last full moon of 2020 is happening tonight in Cancer. The moon rules Cancer so she is completely in her element.
So are you.
This is a great time to honor the guardrails that you’ve built that make you you safe and release any you don’t need any more.
When I was little, I rode a tricycle and then moved up to a two wheeler with training wheels. I loved that bike and I felt kind of like one of the big kids on it.
I noticed that first day though that the training wheels didn’t both touch the ground at the same time. It seemed like one of them only touched when I leaned a little bit and I wondered if I even needed them.
It turns out I didn’t and so we quickly moved to that moment when my dad had me get on, he took a few quick steps with me holding on then and let go and I was cruising on my own.
It felt amazing. It was like my world opened up. I could ride farther and faster and I was doing it all on my own. I was doing it. I didn’t look at it as losing training wheels, I felt like I was gaining freedom.
This is the opportunity I’m offering you.
It’s important to have supportive boundaries in life. We thrive when we feel safe and aren’t worrying if we will be hurt. The thing is some of those boundaries have a shelf life and are only meant to be temporary. They get us to the moment in time when we realize we don’t actually need them and if we hold on to them past that point, they become limitations.
This is an incredible time to release something you’ve out grown. Maybe you’ve recently done this and are just now noticing that you did. Congratulations.
Maybe doing this has crossed your mind recently, but you think you’ll hold on a little longer. As with all things, you do what’s best for you. My message to you today though is that you get to choose how you look at release. You can see it as a loss, like losing something that holds you up or you can see it as a gain, like gaining freedom, confidence, opportunities.
So you decide, is there some belief, habit, behavior, choice that is starting to feel more self-limiting than self-supporting? I bet there is and this is the perfect time to let it go.
It served its purpose and without it you are going to go farther, feel more deeply, and experience more fulfillment in your life. You can do this.
You aren’t losing anything. The release opens up a space for more of what nurtures you. You’ve got this.
The Sagittarius new moon is happening on Monday along with a solar eclipse. It’s also happening just days before Jupiter and Saturn enter Aquarius. While new moons are all about planting seeds and setting intentions, you may have been feeling overwhelmed with loss lately.
The great conjunction has been urging you out of your comfort zone, and pressing you to grow and change, to level up (see highlights in my Instagram profile for more on this). The good news is that universal energy is shifting and along with the urge to change, you will hopefully start feeling lifted up and able to see potential, to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Last month’s full moon invited you to see how you have transformed. This new moon that follows invites you to realize faith in yourself. Believe in yourself.
There’s a fine line between being honest with yourself about who you are and embracing the belief that you are more than you may think you are. Ask yourself, what would you do if you weren’t afraid? Courage isn’t the absence of fear, courage is doing it anyway. This is a time for courage, to step into your potential.
The shift in Aquarius for Jupiter and Saturn is going to bring us closer to both our human and divine connection. As they both continue traveling through Aquarius, we will experience our divine connection to each other and remember we are not alone.
I like to talk about the lunar cycle as a continuing story, because each one connects to the next. So as we move into the full moon Sunday night, we continue this cycle of deep transformation.
By now you may be asking yourself, how much more do I have to release? How spiritually evolved do I really need to be, because this is wearing me out.
Jon Kabat-Zinn wrote, you can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf.
For all of you emotionally surfing through this with me, we’re going to catch a break. I invite you to float through this full moon. In October we were invited to let go of what doesn’t work for us. November’s new moon asked us to be honest with ourselves about the source of our pain, and the Venus transits all month have challenged us to be honest about what matters most to us.
The transformational release we are getting now is the butterfly coming out of its chrysalis and beginning to fly. It’s about allowing ourselves to feel lighter, stronger and having a renewed faith in ourselves. Embrace it. Yes, there is still awful stuff in the world and you still have more work ahead, but seize this moment to lighten up.
Allow yourself to float on the faith that life has a way of working out. Let yourself try something new or to take a detached break from something that weighs on you. Notice when and how you may take yourself a bit too seriously and try easing up on yourself and others. On a deeper level, we are being asked to lighten up, because we often spend way too much energy on small stuff. We need to conserve our energy for the big stuff.
So give yourself a break. Be proud of yourself for having come as far as you have and take a minute to celebrate who you are, especially if you feel tempted to get frustrated over how far you think you have to go.
For this full moon, I invite you to call to mind an imagine of a butterfly. If it helps, do an image search of one and look at it. I want you to just take a minute, either with your eyes closed or while looking at your picture, and see yourself as the butterfly.
See yourself as a changed being. You are not the same person you were a week ago, a month ago, a year ago. Think of one way in which you have changed or one thing that you needed to let go of and you have let it go.
See yourself as the butterfly, touching lightly and moving on. Life is constant change and you have it within you to adapt, adjust and move on. Remember that.
Note: Full moon is exact on 30 November 2020 at 4:30am ET. Moon at 8 degrees of Gemini opposes the Sun in Sagittarius at 8 degrees. We are currently in a cycle for several months of the full moon happening at 8 degrees and the new moon at 23.
I’m remembering a day I decided to clean out my stuffed bedroom closet. I thought I could just pull out a few things, move stuff around and somehow that would be enough. Rookie mistake.
After much frustration, I surrendered. I emptied the closet got everything out and immediately felt overwhelmed. Ugh. Why did I do this. Now I have to deal with all this stuff. In that moment, I realized this was about more than just my closet.
I began the thoughtful work of deciding what to keep and what to let go. I was surprised at how much stuff didn’t make it back in and I loved how easy it was to use and enjoy what did.
Last month was an invitation to start digging into our spiritual closets, letting go of what doesn’t work for us anymore. This month urges us to go a bit deeper, and brings a big payoff for doing so.
New moons are about beginnings and renewal. This Scorpio new moon on Sunday, 15 November 2020 offers us the opportunity to see through the layers of personality and rebuild from our soul.
There can be multiple reasons why pain lingers. One of those reasons is that we stay attached to painful ways of seeing ourselves. It becomes less about what someone did and more about telling ourselves we are not beautiful or lovable.
It’s not just what other people do that reinforces negative self talk. Sometimes, instead of seeing how far we’ve come, we may beat ourselves up for our choices, tell ourselves we are not worthy of abundance, believe that we’ve wasted chunks of our lives or that we’ve missed the boat on something we want so much.
The most powerful thing you can do for this new moon is to choose a wound you carry, and allow yourself to fully admit to yourself why you feel hurt. Look below the actions of someone else and see if you can notice is an underlying belief about yourself that you have been carrying. Chances are your mind used their action to reinforce that negative belief.
Use the extra support of the new moon to create a new beginning based on a belief that is more loving and do at least one thing to reinforce the loving belief. Ask for something you want, try something even if you could fail. Start a mental list of your best qualities.
It’s okay if you’re not able to immediately shift to the replacement belief. Letting go is a process and even recognizing the need to let something go is a step forward and creates the foundation for your new start.
I’ll share more about this period of transformation we are in when I discuss the full moon at the end of the month.
Spoiler alert: it will feel like you can exhale, like you can put down something heavy that you have been carrying for a long time. You’ll feel like you can breathe again.
The new beginning you create with this super new moon by facing these deeper truths will bring you to a full moon experience of faith in yourself and joyful release.
Venus is how we give and receive love and rules every way in which we assign value. Venus opposes Mars early in the month, then continues with a series of squares to Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn and ends with an opposition to Uranus. All these challenging aspects to Venus urge us to get clear about our priorities and to ask ourselves what really matters to us.
So this month, intention is everything.
While transits are experienced most strongly if they touch your natal chart, there is such a strong theme this month, it feels like most people will feel this in some way.
These Venus transits are challenging us to become fully aware of our priorities and intentions. The confrontations we may experience this month are opportunities to learn why we may put a lot of energy into something and not get what we want, or when we get it feel as though it doesn’t fulfill us as the way we thought it would. We are facing ways we believe life isn’t fair, where we believe our choices are limited or non-existent, we are seeing how relationships may be out of balance and how we have isolated ourselves from people and things we love.
Our intentions can dominate our experiences and often override the stories we tell ourselves and the actions we take in the world. One example I use often is this: imagine that you are doing a favor for someone, but you feel so put out by it and resentful while doing it that instead of the person feeling helped or supported by you they feel awful. They feel like a burden, like they are worthless or helpless and wish they hadn’t asked you or you hadn’t offered. What you do for them may even fall apart and end up not being that helpful. Chances are you told yourself that you wanted to help, and some part of you did, but it was a cover story for your deeper intention that came from a place of guilt, obligation or something other than the pure desire to help.
This month, Venus is pulling back the curtain and showing us what we truly value and who is really there for us. We are seeing where love is in our lives, what we value, and where we actually want to be, what we want to do, and how we derive our worth.
We’re also revisiting balance in relationships and seeing where they may be one-sided. This includes both relationships where we do not ask for enough and where we give little of ourselves.
We are being challenged to be honest about what we really value so that we stop putting our energy into what we tell ourselves is important, and instead focus on what and who we truly love.
Some of this may not be easy, but facing it is worth it.
It’s worth taking the time to get a pair of shoes that really fit your feet. You can quickly buy a pair that look good and you tell yourself will work, but your feet won’t participate in the lie. The shoes may work out okay for a short time, but eventually your feet will feel the pain of your choice and make you regret buying them.
Denial always has an expiration date.
This month Venus is urging you to be honest with yourself about what matters to you. If there is any area in your life where you are pretending that something or someone is in alignment with your values, but is not, you’ll feel the friction and it will be a bit harder to pretend.
The good news is that the pain of disappointment or fear that you may feel opens the door to more of what you really love. You gain the focus and willingness you need to bring more of what you love into your life.
Full moons are a fantastic opportunity for you to release what is not in alignment with your highest good and this coming full moon is a particularly incredible opportunity to do this. The emphasis of this one is transformation and universal connection. It’s going to be epic.
Transits are always about what outside energy will or won’t do for you. Think of them as opportunities. They are never your only chance to do something, but they are opportunities where the universe is providing an extra energetic boost.
A full moon is when the sun and moon are exactly opposite each other. When they are in this state of reflection, it’s a particularly good time to take a good long look at yourself and see what is not working for you. It’s not about criticizing yourself. It’s about looking at who you are, what you need, and facing the truth about what in your life is supporting you to be your best self, and what is not.
On Saturday, 31 October 2020 at 10:49am ET, we’ll have the sun at 8 degrees of Scorpio exactly opposite the moon at 8 degrees of Taurus. Scorpio is in the sign most associated with transformation, and both sun and moon are at the degree most associated with transformation. If that wasn’t enough, the moon will be exactly conjunct Uranus at 8 degrees of Taurus. Uranus is a lightening bolt. It’s inspiration, realization, change that can seem sudden and universal connection.
One more thing, this full is also a blue moon. Next one will be in August 2023.
So what does all this really mean?
Given that the moon will be in Taurus, this feels like a time to transform your self-care. Venus enters Libra a few days before and will be making a quincunx with the moon before its exact opposition. It feels like we are being nudged to re-evaluate our priorities, to be honest with ourselves regarding how we allow others to impact our self-worth and to take responsibility for when we gravitate towards people that tell us what we want to hear.
The gentle loving bubble bath self-care is always of value, but the self-care here is much deeper. This full moon is an opportunity to dig deep into what serves you and to let go of what does not. There is a strong vibe of choice and trusting yourself with this full moon, both owning your choices and being willing to trust yourself to make bold new ones.
What you may choose could surprise you or others around you. I promise you though, it will not “come out of the blue.” Instead, this is a time to let yourself dig deep and bring to the surface the choices you’ve been wanting to make for a long time.
Let go of something big. Let go of something that drains you. Let go of something you don’t want regardless of who gave it to you, or what it cost you (financially or energetically). Let go of regret, of feeling powerless, of thinking you’re a victim, of feeling you can’t change. Absolutely let go of some old criticism you keep repeating to yourself.
How do you do make use of this cosmic gift?
Open your heart. Plug into the universal connection that is always available to you and make a conscious decision to be willing to see things differently. Some time before Saturday, take a shower and allow your mind and heart be open to what you need to release now. As the water runs over you, be open to knowing what you need to release. What you come to know could include taking some sort of action, or it may be more of an internal release of thoughts and feelings or both. Make a commitment to yourself that you will let go.
On or before Saturday, take some action, even a small one, to affirm your choice. It can be as simple as telling someone, doing something kind for yourself or actually getting rid of a physical object. The point is to take some action that is in alignment with this choice you have made.
Thoughts + action = real change.
Some suggestions if you work with affirmations:
I embrace change.
I release all that does not serve my highest good.
We all need grounding. We’re human. We all have the Sun and Saturn in our charts.
The sun is our human identity in this life and shows us what makes us feel sane, grounded into who we want to be this time. Saturn is our humanity. It’s time and space, how we define ourselves here. It’s our societal structures, our ability to set boundaries, perceive limitations and experience our humanity. Living a spiritually driven path includes embracing our humanity. I used to travel a lot. Just counting plane rides it’s several hundred trips, then there’s road trips, and I moved to Europe twice. I got the most out of my travels by going local, going to the places unique to the area versus the same chains I had at home. If you feel stuck, scared, or in a funk, try sinking into your humanity and see what insight your Sun and Saturn can give you. They help you understand who you aspire to be and what you need to do along the way. They also help ground you in a way that can help propel you to action. It can be easier to get moving when you feel the ground beneath you is solid, and not so easy to run when what’s beneath you is rocky and shaking. You’re here, in a body, being human. Even if this year has dragged on for you I promise you, once you’ve lived a lot of years you’ll feel their speed and sometimes wish you could slow them down, just a little.
