Pisces moon and sun

Learning the difference between the sun and moon in a sign is an important step in your journey with astrology. I’m going to point out a few differences with sun and moon in Pisces.

The sun is intentional and aspirational. It’s how you see yourself and it’s the basis for your identity in this life.

The moon is your wiring, your essential nature. It’s the temperament you developed over many lives so it is steeped in karmic history. You’re often not even aware that you are expressing your moon because there is no thought involved. It’s reactions.

A Pisces sun has chosen to become a more compassionate and intuitive person in this life and may even imagine that they are. They want to see themselves this way.

They often want to make a difference and be a hero, they want to rescue people and can even be drawn to first responder jobs so they literally are saving people.

Pisces suns have a need to believe that they are saving you and can get frustrated if you don’t take their great advice. There’s always an ego identification with the sun. They want to be the reason your life just got better. Some tend towards a messiah complex, martyrdom and can be prone to self pity. Saving the world is hard stuff.

There are various reasons why someone would choose a Pisces sun. For example, a Pisces sun with an Aries moon is someone who’s history is deeply steeped in their own experience and in this life they are learning that they can become something beyond their own experience. They can become whatever they imagine themselves to be.

A Pisces moon tends to be naturally compassionate and empathic. The moon is auto pilot, what we do without thinking, Pisces moons soak up how others feel and often act onwhat they are picking up and not even realize they are doing so.

A Pisces moon has a chameleon quality and may seem fake or disingenuous when they are really just being what is needed in the moment.

They are naturally imaginative and can also imagine that people feel differently than they do or are different than how they really are. There’s a balance to navigate between being imaginative in a healthy way or sliding into deluding themselves.

When looking at the sun in your chart, remember that it is about this life, this incarnation. It’s your ego, identity, who you believe you are, who you intend to be.

The moon is about how deep karmic history. You’ve developed these automatic ways of reacting that are ingrained in you.

If your sun and moon are the same sign then you didn’t come in desiring to change how you see yourself. It’s more that you’re trying to be a better version of yourself.

If your sun and moon are different, consider why you may want to use the history of your moon to become your sun.

So what’s the difference between having the sun in a sign and the moon in a sign?

💫 The sun and moon are distinctly different energies and they express themselves differently in the sign they are in.

🌟 Does this post help you see the difference? Can you see how your sun sign would be expressed differently as a moon sign and visa versa?

🙈 If your sun and moon signs are the same, you may be confused by this post 😂 that’s normal. Mine are in the same sign and in my early days of learning astrology I was unsure what was because of my moon and what was an expression of my sun. It took a while for me to get it.

🤔 If yours are in different signs, see if you can come up with at least one reason why you’d choose your sun sign given the history of your moon sign.

Fill in the blanks:

I am trying to learn to be (sun) in this life and my history is (moon).

Great time to declutter your mind

Okay so we’ve got this gorgeous square between retrograde Mercury and Uranus, sun and Pluto are conjunct … I want to share something I do periodically, especially during transits really invite us to make decisions and mentally cleaning house.

Close your eyes, take 3 slow deep breaths, then make a list on paper (not electronically) of all the projects, ideas to explore, stuff you’ve been meaning to do, stuff you should do etc.

Include everything.

Learn a new language, clean out the frig, read more to your kids, have that difficult talk with your neighbor, eat healthier, exercise, clean out your desk, clean out the pics on your phone, paint the bathroom …

List ALL of it. All the stuff running through your head that you need to be doing.

Once you’ve gotten it all down, do 3 more slow deep breaths and review the list.

First, circle anything that supports your well being. We’ll come back to those at the end.

Next, cross off everything you don’t really want to do, stuff you feel obligated or pressured to do. You can revisit each later if you ever want to do so, but for now you don’t want to it so cross it off. These things get no more of your daily mental energy.

Next, cross off things you do want to do, but now is not the time. If it isn’t something you have actual plans to start or do in the next few weeks, cross it off. Doing so doesn’t mean you will never do it, now is not the time. These things get no more of your daily mental energy.

Look at everything that isn’t circled or crossed off and ask yourself how important each is to you right now. Today. Does it soothe your soul, bring you joy or exquisite pleasure, energize you, amplify love in your life? If so, circle it. If not, cross it off.

Now look at the circled items. If the list of circled items feels overwhelming, cross some more off. This isn’t a list for your whole life, this is a list for your life now and you can only do so much now.

Once you have it narrowed down to a few things, do three more slow deep breaths and consciously choose to do them, then cross them off as well, because they are now part of your daily life and no longer require you to contemplate doing them.

You may not eat perfectly healthy every day, but you’ve decided to make it part of your daily life. So do it and if you have an off day, eat better the next snd move on. Maybe you don’t read to your kids every night, but do your best and when you miss a night, get back to it.

The point here is to stop thinking about all these things you believe could improve your life and just start doing some of them that fit your life now.

It’s incredible how freeing, light, productive and energized we become when we clear the mental to do list we’ve got running in the background on a loop.

Let me know if you do it.

Time for a responsibility reset

Our Cancer sun is currently sextile Uranus and quincunx Saturn and I want to encourage you to let go of stuff you think you should hold on to, both big and small.

Maybe there’s a bottle of product you bought that you don’t really like. You’ve had it for so long. You keep thinking even though you don’t like it, you’ll use it up. Instead, it collects dust, takes up room, and makes you feel like you are failing when you look at it, or that you shouldn’t have bought it, or must keep it or you’re being wasteful. At some point, what you paid for it is irrelevant, because whatever the cost, keeping it is costing you more. Get rid of it.

You signed up for an online class, but are way behind in the lessons. Stacks of books are by your bedside. Your to do lists have sub lists. You keep meaning to call someone, to reorganize a closet, to learn how to do play an instrument …

Whether the stuff you feel you’ve signed up to do (or use) is connected to something you’ve bought, someone you care about it, something you think is great, or just an idea in your head, this is a good time to revaluate.

Get rid of stuff you don’t want. Move things out of the active space of your life, both physically and mentally unless you are actively using them i.e., keep one or two books out and the rest go on shelves, packed away or given away. It’s okay to take that online class off your to do list for now, and even to allow for the possibility that you never go back to it.

It’s okay if you never actually read every book you bought. Look at the books on your shelves as opportunities available to you and not required assignments.

Notice how and where you’ve fallen into the trap of creating responsibility and obligation and free yourself from it.

Time to reset.

There are core things you need to do, but we can bog ourselves down too easily with good intentions.

When you are holding on to stuff that you don’t want, and to ideas of who you are supposed to be that you don’t feel aligned with now, you are unnecessarily limiting yourself.

Healthy boundaries are good and that includes boundaries on what you require of yourself.

When you stay attached to relationships that aren’t healthy for you out of fear, insecurity, obligation, or the belief they can give you something you can’t get any other way, you are limiting your freedom and all you can be.

Your soul can always find another way. There is no revelatory experience that only comes along once. No other person holds the key to your self discovery. No material object intrinsically has power over you. You give it your power.

Embrace this opportunity to deeply nurture your aspirational self by letting go of stuff that doesn’t serve you, beliefs that limit you and trust that you can bring into your life who and what you need, when you’re ready.

We all need grounding

We all need grounding. We’re human. We all have the Sun and Saturn in our charts.⁣

Pictured: garnets in a septarian bowl, sitting on a slab of petrified wood ⁣

The sun is our human identity in this life and shows us what makes us feel sane, grounded into who we want to be this time.⁣

Saturn is our humanity. It’s time and space, how we define ourselves here. It’s our societal structures, our ability to set boundaries, perceive limitations and experience our humanity. ⁣

Living a spiritually driven path includes embracing our humanity.⁣

I used to travel a lot. Just counting plane rides it’s several hundred trips, then there’s road trips, and I moved to Europe twice. I got the most out of my travels by going local, going to the places unique to the area versus the same chains I had at home. ⁣

If you feel stuck, scared, or in a funk, try sinking into your humanity and see what insight your Sun and Saturn can give you. They help you understand who you aspire to be and what you need to do along the way. They also help ground you in a way that can help propel you to action. It can be easier to get moving when you feel the ground beneath you is solid, and not so easy to run when what’s beneath you is rocky and shaking.⁣

You’re here, in a body, being human. Even if this year has dragged on for you I promise you, once you’ve lived a lot of years you’ll feel their speed and sometimes wish you could slow them down, just a little.⁣

Born on a cusp is not a thing

If you were born on the day the sun changed signs, you aren’t some of both. It really doesn’t work that way.

The sun is a distinctive energy in the chart. The signs and degrees are as well. Having a planet at 0 degrees of any sign is very different than 29 degrees.

If you were born on a “cusp” day and you feel some connection to the two signs it’s most likely because you have some planets in both signs.

Mercury is so close to the sun (no farther than 28 degrees), it is always in either the same sign as the sun or a sign adjacent to it. For example, if you have the sun in Cancer, your Mercury is in Gemini, Cancer or Leo.

Venus is also really close (never farther than 48 degrees) so it can never be more than two signs away from the sun. If you have the sun in Leo, your Mercury is in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra.

Lots of people have Mercury and Venus in a sign right next to their sun sign.

Then there’s all the other planets, plus the nodes, so having something in a sign adjacent to your sun sign is not unusual. As you learn about house placement and aspects, you start to get a feel for the depth and complexity of each piece in your chart.

If you feel a connection to a sign adjacent to your sun sign, there is a reason for it in your natal chart and it has nothing to do with cusps.

Most people know their sun sign by the day they were born. If you were born around a sun sign change, then it means you need to cast your natal chart to know your your sun sign. There are lots of free sites that do this for you online. Just search “cast natal chart” and you’ll get a long list. You’ll need to enter your date, time and location of birth and then the chart is cast your you.

If all you’ve ever known is your sun sign, cast your natal chart and start reading about your moon sign or some of the other planets.

Planets Conjunct the Sun

In Karmic Astrology, the sun in your natal chart represents your ego, your personality in this life. It’s who you aspire to be this time. It is your sense of sanity and of being grounded in this life. When anything in your natal chart is conjunct your sun, then that energy is also bonded with your ego and sense of self. It is hard to separate your identity from that piece and anything connected to that piece is taken very personally.

The sign, house placement, degree and rest of the chart all impact how the conjunction is expressed, but here are a few general notes on these conjunctions.

If you have Moon conjunct the sun, then you identify with your emotions. You don’t separate who you are from how you feel. Your need to express your feelings is strong and you feel deeply.

With Mercury conjunct the sun, your beliefs and mind are bonded with your ego. You identify with your mind and intellect. You need to believe you are rational and when someone does not agree with what you believe, your sense of self can feel invalidated.

Venus conjunct the sun, you identify with your values and sense of beauty. You feel unstable when you are not living in accordance with your values and caring for your appearance is part of how you define yourself.

Mars conjunct the sun, you define yourself by action. Your ambitions and passions ground you. You are what you do, and being able to take action is a very important aspect of self-expression for you.

Saturn conjunct the sun, you identify with security. Saturn rules time and space, so you need to have limits, boundaries and routines. Your sense of loyalty is part of your identify.

Jupiter conjunct the sun, you identify with possibility, growth and hope. Travel and personal growth are part of your identify. You identify with your personal ethics and judgments.

Uranus conjunct the sun, you identify with the eccentric and a sense of individualism while still feeling connected to community and the cosmos. Parts of you will always be somewhat unpredictable, though they will always make sense to you.

Neptune conjunct the sun, you identify with your intuition, compassion, creativity and a need to escape. It’s important to find a way to balance these energies, otherwise you can empathize with others to the point of losing your sense of self.

Pluto conjunct the sun, you identify with your will. Control helps you to feel grounded and you have a great capacity for personal transformation. You experience a deeper sense of empowerment as you learn to align your will with that of the divine, something larger than yourself.

If you have anything conjunct the sun in your chart, read about that energy and then think about how you identify with it. Think about how that energy is part of your sense of sanity, how it makes you feel grounded. It can give you great insight into a choice of career or what you need to feel safe and secure. Also remember that most people do not have something conjunct their sun, and have an ability to separate the energy you identify so strongly with from their ego and personality.

If you find yourself in frequent conflict with someone, ask yourself if there isn’t something you are taking so very personally. Remind yourself that a person may disagree with your beliefs, sense of justice, need to take action for a cause etc., and in no way intend to come across as invalidating who you are or how you should define your sense of self.
